Area Shows

I'll be out of town for a few days, but that doesn't mean you should miss out on some great DC shows. Tomorrow night (June 1 - Happy Birthday, Whitney Havice!) Black Cat has locals Nethers opening up for The Comas and The Broken West.

Nethers - Hung Herself In A Birdcage

The Broken West - On The Bubble

Not a rare occurrence with Black Cat, the venue hosts a second night of great music this weekend on Saturday (June 2) with Monster Bobby, Smoosh, and The Pipettes.

Smoosh - I Would Go

The Pipettes - Judy (Blue States Mix)

On Tuesday night (June 5) DC9 will have Locksley, a group you should definitely check out if you enjoy bands like The Strokes.

The Concretes

Stockholm, Sweden

EDIT: (In response to the comment "How about a little information on the song? New, old??")

This track is from the latest album from The Concretes. Hey Trouble is only available right now as an import from the label Licking Fingers. It marks the first release for the band since the 2006 departure of lead singer Victoria Bergsman (also known for her contribution to "Young Folks"), who is putting out her first solo record next month. Even though Victoria contributed distinctive vocals to The Concretes, I think their latest effort is just as solid as their previous.

Something Like A DVD

If you still haven't checked out Charlotte Martin, what is your problem?! Stromata was my favorite record from a solo female artist last year, and now she's graced us with a DVD of live material plus a bonus CD of b sides, including an alternate version of "Four Walls" and seven other tracks worthy of being on a proper release.

See the video for "Stromata" below...

Something Like A DVD is available now. Go here to purchase it directly from Charlotte!

Also, she did not one but two Lounge Act sessions for WOXY in 2006 - you can listen to those here and here.

The First Annual Music Blog Awards

I was asked to be involved in the selection of nominees for The First Annual Music Blog Awards, which are being brought to you by eMusic.com. Please check out the information below if you'd like to vote.

The nominees selected in each category were chosen by a diverse group of authors from some of the most popular music blogs. Though the nominees were selected by the music bloggers, the winners in each category will be chosen by the general public. That means you! Voting is now live at http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?p=WEB2269CC7CSU5. Everyone who votes will be given the chance to sign up for eMusic.
