District people: Don't be sad if you didn't get to catch Mother Mother at CMJ this week. They'll be hitting up DC9 on Saturday night to promote their new record, O My Heart. Like many others I've heard commenting on the band's sophomore effort, this one had to grow on me but truly is one of my favorites for 2008. If you'd like to see Mother Mother for free at DC9, email me and use the band's original name as the subject line. Good luck!

The selected acts for tomorrow will feature a simple five word review for each from the lovely and multi-talented Merideth Munoz, who is currently in the process of recording material for both Pash and Title Tracks. Hopefully she'll have time to contribute on a regular basis and let everyone know what she thinks about the music currently catching the attention of our ears.
9:30 Club has really been hitting everyone's g spot with good shows. Wednesday night the venue welcomes three amazing acts for a late show (doors 9:45 pm): headlining is A Place To Bury Strangers with Sian Alice Group and Celebration as openers. If you'd like to take a shot at winning a pair of tickets compliments of Sian Alice Group, email me and use the band's hometown as the subject line.

See important message below from Tiny Masters of Today and grab a free download from these kids. So young but so wise.
This election is really important. John McCain and Sarah Palin represent more of the same ignorance that has made the last 8 years really bad. Words are important, and this song is made up of other people's words. They are twisted around but we don't feel bad because politicians do that all the time. Grab it before someone sues us or something!
9:30 Club is quite hit or miss with me on their band choices, but they're definitely on this week. Last night I enjoyed Dosh and The Notwist, even more than I thought I would! Tonight TK Webb & The Visions are opening up for Secret Machines - doors open at 7:00, TK Webb & The Visions play at 8:00, Secret Machines at 9:15.
The Notwist is playing 9:30 Club on Wednesday, and I've got a pair of tickets to give away. If you'd like to go, email me and use the name of the opening act as the subject line. If you're the lucky winner, I'll let you know by tomorrow at 5:00 pm ET.
The Ra Ra Riot show at Black Cat on Sunday night has already been moved from the back stage to the main stage, so I'm pretty certain that this one is going to sell out, especially since so many of us have Monday off from work (thanks, Columbus!). If you'd like a chance to win tickets to see these kids before it sells out, email me at 5actsblog at gmail dot com and use Ra Ra Riot's album title as the subject line. Good luck!
Count The Days is the excellent sophomore disc from The Seedy Seeds and they'll be making their second appearance on WOXY.com today. Tune in for this Lounge Act at 4:30 pm ET to hear some of the new tunes.
So many good albums out today! The first I'm mentioning is from the duo The Rosebuds, who received the prize for my #1 album last year. Although I'm not sure Life Like gives me chills like Night Of The Furies did, it's still definitely worth your time.
Here are some of the hardest working kids in the world of independent rock. They're involved in multiple projects and always seem to be touring. The new full-length, Such Fun, is available today and live dates are listed below.

Over the summer The Morning Benders offered up a stripped down free digital EP of covers appropriately entitled The Bedroom Covers. This fall they've managed to secure an opening spot for Walter Meego and Ra Ra Riot for several shows. On Sunday all three bands will be at Black Cat here in DC. If you'd like a pair of tickets for this one, email me and let me know what you love best about The Morning Benders.
