White Lies just got their disc released here in the states and they'll be at Black Cat tonight. It's a mainstage show with Friendly Fires and The Soft Pack getting the night started. Doors open at 8pm and tickets are $15.

favorite band of SXSW: We Have Band
For me, no performance at SXSW even came close to comparing to We Have Band. I saw them at Mohawk on Friday afternoon and then again on Saturday at EAR Studios for their live session on WOXY.com. I got to chat with the trio them after their set on Saturday and it truly was the highlight of the festival. Currently they're doing everything themselves (recording, mixing, etc.) and haven't committed to any record label for a full-length. "How To Make Friends" and "Honeytrap" were two tracks I hadn't heard yet, but of course I loved them. Hopefully we'll have something proper from them by the Fall. Can't wait!

I know that most everyone is all a twitter this week over SXSW in Austin, but if you're in DC this evening, please stop by Black Cat for Pree's CD release show. A Chopping Block is officially out on Tuesday (March 24) from The Kora Records, and it's definitely my favorite EP so far in 2009. Can't wait to hear more from May Tabol and her musical friends!

Cursive
Yesterday Saddle Creek and Cursive began offering the band’s new album Mama, I’m Swollen as a digital download for only $1 through the Saddle Creek website, launching a special promotion to allow fans to buy the album early at a lower cost. For the next eight days the new album will be available as a digital download at a pro-rated price that will increase by $1 each day - $2 today, $3 on March 3, $4 on March 4, etc. When the record hits stores on March 10, the digital album will then remain at the regular price of $9.
